Job Summary

CenterPoint Energy is seeking an LCL702 Coal Yard Equipment Operator to join our Power Generation Operations team in Evansville, Indiana. In this role, you will support safe, reliable, and efficient coal yard operations by operating equipment, maintaining material flow, and assisting with routine maintenance activities.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain the coal stockpile and load bulk limestone for scrubber operations.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on conveyor systems, support dust suppression activities, and assist with snow removal on access roads.
  • Operate large coal handling and limestone processing equipment in support of daily plant operations.
  • Perform light welding tasks and safely operate equipment such as backhoes and lift trucks.
  • Monitor coal inventory levels and maintain equipment in good working order to support continuous plant operations.
  • Support the removal of scrubber waste and ensure the timely delivery of coal to meet operational needs.
  • Work rotating shifts and be available for overtime, including weekends and holidays, as business needs require.

Education Description

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • 1–3 years of job-related formal training required.
  • 1–3 years of relevant work experience required; coal handling experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required, including the ability to complete routine communication and data entry/retrieval tasks.
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold temperatures, noisy environments, at elevated heights, and while wearing required respiratory protection.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders, walk on inclines, kneel, bend, crawl, stand, and sit for extended periods as needed to perform the job safely.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and by radio to coordinate daily coal and limestone feed activities.
  • Must be available to work overtime as needed to support operational requirements.
