Job Summary
In support of the Natural Gas Distribution business in Minnesota, this position performs activities related to financial planning and budgeting, management and performance budgeting, and forecasting and modeling. Works closely with department stakeholders and management to drive continuous improvement and evaluate monthly financial performance in accordance with the current year forecast and facilitates any necessary adjustments to approved financial plans and/or future expenditures. Aggregates data using SAP and financial records to complete data analysis and create, update, and manage financial models forecasting future operations to support business functions, profitability analysis, and management reporting. Acts as a key liaison to other departmental functions such as Operations, Accounting, Regulatory, and Corporate Support to ensure the business needs of each area are balanced and integrated.
Essential Functions
- Serve as a critical financial partner for Gas Operations and functional support areas driving operating financial planning, forecasting, and analysis to improve and optimize decisions and performance.
- Work directly with Gas Operations Leadership in developing annually and performing monthly financial performance analysis of their budget to achieve financial targets, such as Profit and Loss variance analysis, key statistics, and metrics, etc.
- Ensure budget reports accurately reflect expenditures and related transactions in order to assure useful management information and comprehensive budgetary control.
- Prepare financial forecasts and analysis by work planning activities and develop financial models supporting Minnesota jurisdictional initiatives such as the general rate case, jurisdictional cost allocations, future financing, and the impact of accounting issues and management of various audits and required reporting.
- Utilize SAP, analytical and financial models, software tools, and spreadsheet skills to perform analyses and reporting.
- Support financial statement report preparation and interpret month-end financial close results, profit margin and cost comparisons, productivity/efficiency studies and any other requests requiring financial analysis.
- Embrace continuous improvement mindset and develop innovative processes, procedures and/or tools to support analysis of business performance.
- Participate on or lead cross-functional teams to provide business, accounting/financial expertise in support of client efforts.
Perform all aspects of work with high degree of effectiveness, efficiency and accuracy.
Education Description
Bachelor’s degree required in accounting, economics, finance, statistics, mathematics or business from an accredited college or university
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience required
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience building Excel based financial models

Compensation: $84,864.80 to $127,297.20 Annually
CenterPoint Energy is required by Minnesota law to provide a good faith estimate of the minimum and maximum starting compensation range at the time of posting for the opportunity. This annual compensation range is specific to Minnesota and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.
