Job Summary
Utilize leadership and managerial skills to facilitate the construction, customer service and support activities performed by our Electric capital delivery team. Ensure compliance with safety rules, Company policies and procedures. Organize, plan, budget, monitor, control the cost-effective use of Company assets and resources. Promote and facilitate goal setting. Communicate, monitor and ensure progress toward attainment of Department and Company goals.
Essential Functions
- Manage the performance of assigned personnel. Conduct performance evaluations, provide developmental opportunities for employees, administer constructive discipline, provide employee guidance, counsel and maintain proper documentation.
- Plan, prioritize, schedule and assign work. Assist crews with field changes as necessary to ensure the safety and efficient performance of the crews. Demonstrate responsibility, attendance and dependability.
- Plan, budget, monitor, control and report on expenditures in area of responsibility.
- Communicate, monitor and promote corporate and departmental goals.
- Monitor and identify training and development needs for employees, while planning, budgeting and facilitating these needs.
- Ensure that safety meetings are effective and held regularly.
- Perform safety, environmental and quality inspections of job sites.
- Analyze work processes/procedures to ensure efficiency, accuracy and timeliness.
- Assist operation supervisors with effective and efficient procurement, distribution, use of materials and equipment and monitoring of records.
- Evaluate new materials and equipment and assist in research and development of new technologies.
- Maintain basic knowledge of Company, safety and departmental policies, employee benefits, service standards and Union contract(s). Serve as the initial resource regarding these documents.
- Set the standard for providing effective customer service while representing the Company in various customer and client service capacities.
- Prepare oral and written reports and presentations as required.
- Maintain proper working relationships with all levels of the organization.
Education Description
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required.
- Will consider relevant job-related CenterPoint Energy or industry-related experience in lieu of degree.
Experience
- Minimum seven (7) years field operations exposure, dealing with the construction, operation and maintenance of the electric distribution system required. Prior experience leading a team preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and abilities.
- Knowledge of safe work practices associated with the installation, operation and maintenance of distribution electrical equipment.
- Operational knowledge of overhead and underground electric distribution system
- Knowledge of basic electrical principles in the CenterPoint Energy's overhead distribution system.
- Knowledge of the operational aspects of substation and major underground equipment connected to overhead distribution systems.
- Ability to effectively organize and direct operations in stressful emergency situations
- Knowledge of job-related environmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
- Ability to speak, read and write in English and perform basic mathematics (add, subtract, multiply, divide), interpret and communicate information regarding prints, maps, work orders, technical material, timelines, work management and budgets, etc.
- Ability to operate the Company's communication equipment, i.e. radio, telephone, fax, etc.
- Ability to represent the Company with best practices and make certain staff is accountable for set guidelines.
- Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, take all required training courses and do so timely
- Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the Company’s values and business practices and do both consistently

- Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
- Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
- Able to distinguish between colors.
- Able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs and ladders, and crawl in confined spaces such as attics or crawl spaces.
- Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle daily or for extended time periods, in a safe manner, and enter/exit vehicle unassisted.
- Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Must be alert at all times due to potential dangers associated with high-voltage electricity and construction equipment.
