Job Summary:

 

Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for Shop and Radio Services across CenterPoint Energy's service territories. Drives performance in safety, reliability, regulatory compliance, customer service, and cost effectiveness. Leads cross-functional teams including union, non-union, and contractor staff and ensures continuous improvement through process standardization, technology integration, and KPI-driven management.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

 

Strategic Leadership & Planning

  • Develop and implement departmental strategies aligned to business unit and corporate objectives.
  • Lead transformation efforts, including innovation, organizational change, and technology adoption.
  • Forecast resource and service needs to support current and future operational requirements.
  • Manage annual budget planning, track variance, and ensure financial targets are met.

 

Operations Management

  • Manage Shop Services including tool calibration, metal fabrication, switch and transformer repair, and Intelligent Grid Switching Device (IGSD) preparation.
  • Lead Radio Communications including voice radio systems, mobile data, Distribution Automation Control Systems (DACS), SCADA support, and RF interference resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with internal service levels and external regulations.

 

People Leadership

  • Provide coaching, development, and performance management for direct reports and frontline leaders.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Ensure staffing plans and succession pipelines meet organizational needs.
  • Support engagement and communication across union and non-union teams.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain current knowledge of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements related to radio and shops operations.
  • Guide and validate operational reporting, benchmarking, metrics, and audits.
  • Support enterprise initiatives including asset management, emergency response & readiness, and business continuity.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a liaison to business units, supply chain, safety, and IT teams.
  • Partner with internal clients to understand evolving service needs and performance expectations.
  • Manage vendor and contract relationships ensuring performance, ethics, and value delivery.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Business or Engineering preferred. Equivalent CenterPoint Energy experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience: 10+ years of progressive leadership; at least 5 years in a managerial role.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of SCADA/DACS systems, RF systems, and utility-grade shop repair services.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to manage multimillion-dollar budgets.
  • Advanced problem-solving, change management, and project leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with SAP and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lead in both structured corporate environments and field-based operations.
  • Skilled in cross-functional collaboration, customer service, and stakeholder communication.
