Job Summary

Provides technical research and analysis of CNP Transmission Rights-of Way (ROWs) to the Transmission Services Division for mitigating encroachments, facilitating joint-use ventures, and optimizing long range corridor development.

Responsible for distribution-related reviews and NESC clearance requests concerning the Transmission ROWs.

Responsible for interpreting technical drawings/site plans and providing long range corridor plans to ensure no impact to Transmission ROWs by third-party users. Responsible for mitigating issues by planning, coordinating, and monitoring work performed in the ROWs by others.

Essential Functions

  • Review/approve/deny engineered plans of property development adjacent to CNP Transmission ROWs
  • Review/approve/deny plans for joint-use of CNP Transmission ROWs by pipelines, utility lines, roads, etc.
  • Coordinate with various companies/contractors to mitigate third party encroachments in CNP ROW
  • Receive/process Distribution Design’s requests for NESC clearance information
  • Coordinate AC Interference Mitigation (ACIM) requests by pipeline companies
  • Develop long range transmission corridor plans utilizing 2D CAD graphics software (MicroStation)
  • Must be able to read, interpret, summarize technical drawings, site plans, manuals, documents and drawings
  • Inspect and review planned new and/or existing facilities within/adjacent to CNP ROWs
  • Create SAP work orders as needed to mitigate issues within CNP ROWs
  • On occasion, perform field inspections as needed for final project approval, approval of customer-installed facilities, and miscellaneous customer requests
  • Ensure needed information for clearance checks is ‘packaged’ and sent to Transmission Engineering
  • Work closely with internal departments (Surveying & Right of Way, Transmission Operations, Transmission Engineering, Legal, etc.) to develop action plans for various ROW issues/scenarios

  • Apply specific engineering experience and knowledge to solve problems using company standards and material
  • Input required data into company database; generate project documentation, work orders, and reports
  • Gather, analyze and communicate technical information to internal and external entities in written and verbal form
  • Communicate clearly (in written and verbal form) with other departments within the company, as well as external entities (engineering firms, contractors, customers)
  • Use SAP to enter, retrieve and analyze plan/actual data.
  • Ensure compliance with Company Safety guidelines, legal notices, and project/budget reporting
  • Utilize computer skills to manage work order creation and (when necessary) PO releases, invoicing, collections, and accounting adjustments.
  • Using the database, assist with tracking/reporting on new and open projects for the team
  • Sr. Engineering Technologist is expected to be proficient in the above duties, train others, exhibit leadership on team projects, and consistently contribute innovative ideas or solutions.

Education Description

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Technology, Engineering or related fields preferred
    • Will consider 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree

Experience

5 years of relevant work experience required.
