Job Summary
Implementation of CenterPoint Energy Substation Operations Internal Compliance Program for the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standards. This role will support compliance with both Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Operations and Planning (O&P) compliance requirements applicable to Substation Operations.
Essential Functions
- Understand the NERC Requirements applicable to Substation Operations.
- Implement established compliance processes and maintain sufficient evidence to demonstrate compliance.
- Annually update documentation, such as policies, procedures and artifacts, within established repositories.
- Perform and document periodic compliance activities required by the NERC CIP Standards (for example, patch management reviews, change control documentation).
- Implement new or revised NERC Reliability Standards, including process and procedure development and implementation of internal controls.
- Support compliance through gathering information for Requests for Information (RFIs) from regulatory bodies.
- Serve as a witness, representing Substation Operation, during compliance enforcement engagements (audits).
- Assist in maintaining audit readiness through review and drafting of Reliability Standard Audit Worksheet (RSAW) narratives and evidence, documenting and evaluating internal controls.
- Participate in the NERC Standards Development process through developing comments and voting recommendations on various NERC projects.
Education Description
Bachelor’s degree required
- Preferably in engineering, business, risk management, political science or related field of study
- Will consider relevant job-related CenterPoint Energy experience for non-degree candidates
Experience
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in one or more of the above disciplines
- Knowledge and experience in electric utility operations, regulatory compliance and/or policy or procedural development of a similar nature.
- Above average communication skills both verbal and written.
- Analytical skills with experience in critical thinking, problem solving, and project management.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work under stressful working conditions
- Able to operate a motor vehicle and the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
- Able to view computer terminal/screen, sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
- Ability to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop.
- Ability to operate office machines including telephone, photocopier, fax machine, calculator, laptop, mobile phone, etc.
- Ability to reach, grasp and move items.
Working Conditions
- Ability to work a varied schedule to complete projects and meet deadlines in response to changing demands.
- Able to work overtime (nights and/or weekends) as needed or required to meet established deadlines.
- Able to travel to attend meetings, industry or professional association conferences and stay overnight as required.
