Job Summary:

As a Senior Cloud Engineer supporting our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment, you will play a critical role in architecting, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and cost-efficient cloud infrastructure for the Data & Analytics Organization. You will work closely with data engineers, AI/ML teams, developers, and security professionals to ensure the platform supports advanced analytics, real-time data processing, and AI workloads. Your responsibilities will include managing IAM policies, automating infrastructure provisioning, and enforcing security and compliance standards. You will also lead cloud optimization efforts, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to the evolution of our cloud strategy.

 

 

Essential Functions:

IAM & Security Management

  • Maintain and manage Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies and roles in GCP, ensuring least-privilege access and compliance with internal and external security standards.
  • Implement and monitor security controls such as VPC Service Controls, CMEK, and audit logging to protect sensitive data.

 

Cloud Architecture & Automation

  • Design and implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or Deployment Manager to automate provisioning and configuration of cloud resources.
  • Develop reusable templates and modules to standardize deployments across environments.

 

Governance & Compliance

  • Define and enforce cloud governance policies, including resource tagging, quota management, and policy constraints using GCP Organization Policy Service.
  • Collaborate with compliance and security teams to support audits and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2).

 

Platform Operations & Optimization

  • Administer and optimize compute, storage, and networking resources in GCP to support high-performance data workloads.
  • Apply FinOps practices to monitor, analyze, and optimize cloud spend, leveraging tools like GCP Cost Management, BigQuery Reservations, and Committed Use Discounts.

 

Data & Analytics Platform Support

  • Support a modern data engineering strategy using serverless technologies such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Cloud Functions to enable near real-time data delivery.
  • Administer and maintain enterprise BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, SAP BusinessObjects) hosted in the cloud, ensuring performance, availability, and user access control.

 

DevOps & CI/CD

  • Implement CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and data workflows using tools like Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  • Promote DevOps best practices to ensure reliability, scalability, and rapid delivery of cloud-based solutions.

 

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on GCP services and best practices, providing guidance to engineering teams and business stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and operational excellence.

 

Education:

Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a focus on math, statistics, computer science, information technology

 

 

Experience and Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in Cloud Engineering, with a focus on designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure is required
  • Deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP), particularly in IAM administration, access control, and security best practices.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Java, and Spark for automation, data processing, and cloud-native development.
  • Hands-on experience with FinOps practices, including cloud cost monitoring, budgeting, and optimization strategies.
  • Strong background in DevOps, including the design, deployment, and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines using tools like Cloud Build, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions.
  • Skilled in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or Deployment Manager.
  • Advanced knowledge of GCP services, including BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, and Cloud Run.
  • Experience with multi-cloud environments, including AWS and Azure DevOps, with a focus on data platform integration and management.
  • Administrative experience with Palantir Foundry, including user management, pipeline orchestration, and platform configuration.
