Job Summary

Assist assigned business unit(s) in complying with Corporate Environmental Policies and Procedures and applicable federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations while conducting operations in an environmentally responsible manner.  Coordinate environmental initiatives, conduct required analyses and perform observations, and evaluate results to make recommendations as necessary for maintaining compliance with governing regulatory agencies.

Essential Functions

  • Provide environmental support for CenterPoint Energy Electric or Corporate Operations and other technical services.  
  • Conduct preliminary project site evaluations to assess potential for wetlands, threatened/endangered species, and other natural and cultural resource impacts requiring permitting.
  • Commission and supervise formal wetland, ecological, and cultural surveys and studies.
  • Provide support for securing necessary permits and licenses from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Texas General Land Office, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and other local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Interface with federal, state, and local environmental agency staff regarding company’s operations.
  • Communicate environmental requirements to assigned business units.

Essential Functions Continued

  • Review contractor work to ensure services are performed according to applicable environmental specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and process environmental consultant billings to ensure charges are appropriate and are allocated to the correct business units.
  • Assemble required data and information to support submittals to regulatory agencies and internal clients.  This involves investigations that includes analyzing and interpreting data, trends and patterns.
  • Remain available 24 hours/day to respond to emergency calls regarding spills or other environmental emergencies.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Develop and present training programs for client specific requirements.
  • Conduct complex regulatory and legislative analyses.
  • Manage programs and projects.

Education Description

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Biological Sciences, Environmental Management, or a related educational field

Experience

  • Requires a minimum of three years environmental regulatory environmental work, specifically wetland and ecological assessments and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permitting.  Must have a good understanding of environmental sciences as well as familiarity with federal, state and local environmental rules and regulations.  Academic research experience is optional but helpful.
