Summary:
This position provides industrial hygiene technical and professional support for CenterPoint Energy’s Enterprise Industrial Hygiene Program. Responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with applicable State and Federal Regulations as well as CenterPoint policies and best practices. This position will focus on the continuous improvement of CenterPoint policies, programs and work practices in effort to maintain a safe work environment.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Maintains and continuously improves the CenterPoint Industrial Hygiene Program under the direction of the Enterprise Safety Programs Manager.
- Develops and coordinates the execution of the Industrial Hygiene Exposure Assessment Strategy for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Maintains and continuously improves the CenterPoint Safety policies in accordance with , programs and best practice guidance related to occupational exposure assessment and control including:
- Hazard Communication
- Respiratory Protection
- Hearing Conservation
- Toxic Metals (Lead, Mercury, etc)
- Identifies Federal and State Occupational Health and Safety regulations applicable to CenterPoint’s Operations as well as relevant industry best practices
- Performes duties as assigned during CenterPoint Emergency Operations in response to weather events or neighboring industrial incidents.
- Performs and coordinates qualitative and quantitative assessments of employee exposures including: Chemical, Noise, Silica, Asbestos, non-ionizing radiation (RF), vibration and heat stress.
- Provides guidance to operations leadership and employees in regards to exposure control and personal protective equipment related to occupational health exposure.
- Identifies, develops and provides Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics related to the CNP IH Program to Operations and Safety leadership and affected employees to drive continuous improvement of health and safety related work practice and policies.
- Continuously improves and maintains field and office Ergonomics program including the performance and coordination of employee task and work station ergonomics assessments.
- Participatesin investigation teams with focus on learning, formal causal analysis.
- Works in close collaboration with corporate, operations and safety leadership to develop and implement sustainable corrective measures and process improvements to prevent incidents.
- Manages projects associated with program implementation continuous improvement initiatives, risk mitigation metrics and key performance indicators.
Education:
Level II – Balchlor’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene/Occupational Health or related field from an accredited college or university
Experience:
Requires experience in safety, industrial hygiene with experience in the areas of designing, implementing and managing effective programs.
Level II: 3-5 years of Industrial Hygiene experience

- Able to demonstrate advanced knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel (pivot tables, charting, calculations) and audit spreadsheets, reports and dashboards to ensure accuracy
- Able to maintain open, active two-way communication
- Able to develop and maintain relationships with internal customers, provide quality service, and maintain an enterprise mindset
- Able to inspire, motivate and guide others to achieve personal, departmental and organizational goals

Physical Requirements:
- Able to communicate orally in a clear manner
- Able to hear oral communication either in person or on equipment such as telephone or mobile phone
- Able to view a personal computer monitor or laptop screen for extended periods of time
- Able to operate a personal computer, either desktop or laptop, for extended periods of time creating, composing and reviewing documents and spreadsheets
- Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to assist in the development of training equipment and training devices.
- Able to operate office equipment, including telephone, mobile phone, photocopier, fax machine, scanner and calculator
- Able to reach, grasp and move items
- Able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods of time
- Able to exert up to 20 pounds of force repetitively, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects
- Able to operate a motor vehicle, including ability to enter and exit the vehicle unassisted, and travel long distances
- Able to operate a motor vehicle and drive a motor vehicle for multiple hour trips.
Working Conditions:
- Able to work in fast-paced environment with a high volume workload and frequent, short deadlines that may require more than a 40-hour work week to meet established deadlines, including working nights and/or weekends as required.
- Able to travel outside of primary work location, in any weather conditions and occasionally overnight, to field locations, remote areas, conferences and/or meetings.
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergency events and assume responsibilities assigned by the company to aide in restoration efforts
