This position can potentially be located at any of our service centers in the Greater Houston region
Job Summary:
You will be responsible for the reliable and safe operation of the electrical transmission system and inter-utility high voltage tie lines as well as providing support for operation of the distribution system and other essential equipment within the service area. Operations Supervisors supervise crews to assure work is coordinated and completed safely, efficiently and on schedule. Operations Supervisors ensure compliance with safety rules, Company policies and procedures, as well as job specifications and regulatory standards. Operations Supervisors provide leadership to their crews, utilizing departmental background, interpersonal skills, coaching skills and technical expertise.
Essential Functions:
- Under the direction of a manager, coordinate the daily activities of assigned Line Inspectors and/or crew(s).
- Prioritize, schedule and assign work to achieve business goals. Ensure tailboard meetings are held and are effective.
- Safeguard self, contractors, as well as fellow workers and the public in the course and scope of business by following safety rules set forth in the Company’s Accident Prevention Manual. Assure that safety meetings are held regularly and effectively.
- Analyze and monitor effectiveness of Contractor's safety, environmental and operations procedures, and address unsafe practices or situations and take appropriate action.
- Coordinate between contractors, various CenterPoint Energy (CNP) departments, and various external agencies to assure timely completion of work and provide technical expertise as needed and clarify job scope/requirements to be performed by Contractors.
- Perform field quality control inspections of contractor job sites and work processes and oversee corrective actions taken on all rejected contractor installations.
- Set the standard for contractors and internal crews regarding customer service.
- Administer company policy within area work groups.
- Manage employee performance, encourage, motivate, coach, train, hold subordinates accountable and resolve employee conflicts.
- Manage resources including budget, equipment, tools and instruments.
- Personally exhibit behavior consistent with all Company values, policies and procedures.
- Comply and support the Company, its management and policies.
- Assure the effective and efficient procurement, distribution and use of materials for contractors and internal crew(s) and maintain effective records of such.
- Utilize various SAP applications to review Work Orders and perform contract job labor and material cost analysis on completed work, and make comments when necessary
- Monitor, maintain, and update manual and computerized work management records, assuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Perform detailed field audit of completed work orders at random intervals to quantify contractor performance measurements
- Audit contractors and field personnel by visually monitoring work progress and ensure correct procedures are followed on a regular basis and communicate with contractor field supervision to relay expectations, responsibilities, performance evaluation, warnings, etc.
- Ensure that applicable employee personnel files are maintained with performance documentation as appropriate.
- Evaluate contractor performance and quantify results, including periodic contract compliance or "scorecard" comparison.
- Prepare and deliver both formal and informal oral and written communications related to service area activities.
- Utilize SAP to review WEB Base and Accounts Receivable invoicing, approve contractor invoices and generate purchase orders for approved AP invoices.
- Prepare bid documents and participate in Contract development and negotiations.
- Represent the Division/Department or company on internal work teams and with external parties as required.
- Maintain proper working relationships with management, co-workers, contractors, and customers. Research issues and facilitate work orders. This may include securing access, obtaining permits, verifying security clearances, etc.
- Schedule outages as required and coordinate work and outage schedules between CenterPoint Energy Crews, CenterPoint Energy Consultants, Contractor Crews, Real Time Operations and customers as required
- Maintain a regular and reliable level of attendance. Set the example for the crew.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of bargaining unit agreement.
Education:
Requires a high school diploma or GED
Experience:
- Preferred experience includes serving in a Head Line Mechanic or equivalent leadership role in electric utility line work for approximately three (3) years.
- Demonstrated ability to lead crews or act in a supervisory capacity in line operations within the past three (3) years is strongly valued.
- Experience in transmission line construction is desirable but not required.
