Job Summary:
CenterPoint Energy is seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Metering and Field Operations to lead and manage all aspects of electric metering services and field operations across the Houston Electric service territory. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of metering services, overseeing field workforce performance, and driving operational excellence through innovation, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
The Director will play a key leadership role in the strategic development, deployment and integration of AMS 2.0 (Advanced Metering System), ensuring alignment with both short-term operational goals and long-term business strategies. This position requires a forward-thinking approach to workforce management, technology adoption, and customer service delivery.
Essential Functions:
- Leadership & Strategy

- Develop and execute strategic plans for metering and field operations aligned with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
- Provide visionary leadership to support the successful deployment and optimization of AMS 2.0, ensuring scalability, reliability, and customer value.
- Align operational initiatives with both immediate performance targets and long-term business needs, including grid modernization and digital transformation.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Operational Oversight

- Oversee daily operations of electric metering, including installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of meters and related infrastructure.
- Manage field operations including outage response, service restoration, and customer service-related field activities.
- Ensure timely and accurate meter data collection and integration with billing systems.
- Performance & Compliance

- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency, reliability, and customer satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including NERC, ERCOT, and PUCT standards.
- Lead audits and inspections related to metering and field operations.
- Technology & Innovation

- Champion the adoption of advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), smart grid technologies, and digital tools to enhance operational capabilities.
- Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to support system upgrades and data analytics initiatives.
- Stakeholder Engagement

- Serve as a liaison with internal departments, regulatory agencies, and external partners to support metering and field operations.
- Respond to escalated customer issues and represent the department in cross-functional meetings and initiatives.
Education Description:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited university. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in electric utility operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of electric metering systems, field operations, and utility regulatory frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience with operations, customer service and business analytics.
- Proven ability to lead large teams and manage complex operational environments.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Experience with AMI systems, GIS, OMS, and work management platforms is highly desirable.
