Job Summary

Responsible for driving data science initiatives across the company. This role applies and operationalizes advanced analytical methodologies on large datasets to extract business value. Areas of focus include forecasting, image recognition, clustering, NLP, LLM, optimization, etc. This role is expected to collaborate with business SMEs and communicate results to a non-technical audience. 

Essential Functions

  • Partner with various business units such as electric and gas operations, Customer, Finance, Supply Chain, Asset Management, Safety, etc. to design, develop, and deploy machine learning and artificial intelligence models. This includes classification, deep learning, sentiment analytics, time-series analysis, regression, image recognition, NLP, clustering, etc.  
  • Develop and deploy LLM models to improve the accuracy and efficiency of data analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and revenue generation using data-driven insights.
  • Use advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to analyze large data sets and identify trends and insights that can be used to improve business operations and decision-making.
  • Communicate machine learning models in a way which can be understood by a broad audience
  • Act as subject matter expert in the data science space. Stay on top of cutting edge advanced analytics techniques
  • Develop and implement data visualization tools and dashboards to communicate data insights to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop machine learning models which can be deployed on streaming data pipelines. 
  • Leverage cloud and big data solutions to develop machine learning and artificial intelligence models
  • Think creatively to brainstorm innovative ways of using data to address business problems
  • Monitor model performance, drift and accuracy. 
  • Research emerging technologies and machine learning platforms and determine how they could be leveraged to solve business problems
  • Develop and maintain AI and ML ops framework for deploying models to production 
     

Education Description

Bachelor's or Master's degree in data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working as a data scientist or in a related field.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, and SQL.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experince with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Experience using statistical analysis, machine learning algorithms, deep learning, large language models, NLP, image recognition and predictive modeling.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively communicate complex data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with AI and ML ops frameworks such as MLFlow, Kubeflow, or Prefect.
  • Experience with cloud-based machine learning platforms such as AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, or GCP AI Platform.
  • Strong project management skills to manage multiple projects and stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of the energy industry is a plus.
     

Physical Requirements

  • Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
  • Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
  • Able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.

Working Conditions

  • Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy's Emergency Operation Plan (EOP).
