Job Summary

This position is assigned to the Property Accounting group which is responsible for the proper accounting, recording, and reporting of the company’s capital assets.  Property Accounting is dedicated to exceeding the expectations of our customers and internal clients, anticipating the changing needs of the Business Units, and providing solutions in an accurate and timely manner. This position is responsible for ensuring that the capital assets are accurately recorded and reported in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), internal policies and procedures, and state and federal regulatory requirements.

 

Essential Functions

Understand and apply property accounting policies and procedures, SAP ESD and financial asset modules, and business unit functions. Apply such knowledge to the proper recording of property accounting transactions.  

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and supporting detail
  • Prepare property accounting schedules and controls
  • Analyze and execute monthly depreciation postings
  • Prepare annual tax reports for state and federal authorities
  • Prepare detail work sheets of changes in various accounts by months
  • Perform asset reporting projects
  • Perform SOX controls
  • Compile information necessary to support regulatory filings
  • Understand Retirement Unit Catalogs and capitalization guidelines
  • Prepare special studies and reports as requested by supervisor

 

Education Description

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university

 

Experience

  • Three (3) years of full-time accounting or financial experience required

 

Additional Knowledge, Skills, Licences/Certifications, Abilities & Personal Characteristics (KSLAPS): 

  • Strong knowledge of SEC and GAAP guidance
  • Proficient in SAP, Excel and Word
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and proven people and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently through use of initiative and self-motivation
  • Ability to build effective relationships in order to further results
  • Proven problem solving and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Knowledgeable and skillful use of technological tools and resources capable of providing required financial information
  • Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to function effectively in team environment
  • Able to recognize and handle confidential information in a discreet manner. Able to demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, take all required training courses and do so timely
  • Able to demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the Company’s values and business practices and do both consistently
