Job Summary

CenterPoint Energy is searching for a Database Programmer Analyst, experienced in the design, development and deployment of enterprise level software with a focus on the Oracle database development and performance tuning. The qualified candidate will have experience working in an agile team environment and capable of delivering new software product capabilities. Interfaces with clients at various organizational levels to plan, develop, evaluate, assess, or modify applications in support of different business units.  Transforms or translate business requirements into technical specifications, takes business requirements and delivers and/or directs execution of technical work to yield new capabilities for electric and gas delivery operations. The qualified candidate will have experience in a fast paced environment and capable of delivering complex software database components.  The open position is in the Advanced Metering System team. This team focuses on technology which powers CenterPoint Energy’s smart metering and intelligent grid operations.
 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for providing advanced technical support in the research, experimentation, business analysis and use of systems technology including architecture, integration capabilities and database.
  • Responsible for working closely with other IT/OT groups to coordinate current and future plans and activities, including coordination and technical assistance to facilitate specific development projects that involve the computing environment, the coordination of software upgrades and the installation of new products.  
  • Responsible for recognizing and identifying potential areas where existing policies and procedures require change, or where new ones need to be developed, especially regarding future business expansion.  
  • Influences and communicates effectively with all levels of organization on data architecture strategy.  
  • Directs and ensures smooth workflow within the project(s) by Keeping in touch with key elements of the organization, Communicating updates in a timely manner and overseeing the system management
  •  Assists management, when appropriate, in the preparation of budgets and the monitoring and control of expenses against budgets
  • Takes responsibility for the successful completion of activities, client satisfaction and the achievement of team goals and objectives  
  • Ensures on-time delivery of work, including monitoring of external and internal dependencies, tracking of progress, and monitoring of project milestone accomplishments by:  
  •  - Developing estimates for new and existing projects.  
  •  - Recording work status information and generating status reports for clients and IT leadership.  
  •  - Tracking actual versus planned.  
  •  - Ensuring all activity is accurately recorded and reported 
  •  Participates in scheduled annual disaster recovery tests, including maintenance of required documentation and coordination of user participation.  
  • Participates Perform deployments including weekend and weeknight rollouts.

Education Description

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline preferred. In lieu of a bachelor degree, any combination of applicable education and experience equal to four (5) years may be substituted.
 

Experience

Five (5) years experience in information technology, business analytics, project management or business operations/optimization

Background in Advanced Metering Systems, Outage Management Systems, Advance Distribution Management Systems and/or Control Systems is preferred.          

Required Technology Experience:  Oracle PL/SQL, Linux, application/database performance tuning and testing, Oracle and PostgreSQL.

Preferred Technology Experience: Python, Java, JMS, XML, REST, MS Visual Studio, Web Services, SOAP, .NET C#.

Possesses a working knowledge of Process Architecture , including a detailed understanding of the software implementation lifecycle , as well as Service Management-related processes (e.g., Change Management, Request Management).
