Job Summary

The Case Manager serves as the central coordination point for tracking, managing, and driving resolution of compliance-related matters within the utility’s operational compliance organization. This includes regulatory commitments, potential compliance issues, audit findings, corrective actions, and other compliance-driven activities. The Case Manager ensures that each matter is properly assigned, documented, and progressed through resolution on schedule, working across functional lines to keep stakeholders accountable and leadership informed.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the full lifecycle of compliance cases, including intake, tracking, and resolution of regulatory issues, audit findings, and corrective actions
  • Assign and coordinate case ownership, ensuring clear expectations, timelines, and accountability.
  • Monitor progress, track milestones, and proactively address risks or delays to keep cases on schedule.
  • Partner across compliance, operations, engineering, safety, legal, and regulatory teams to drive alignment and resolution.
  • Facilitate meetings, gather documentation, and support responses for regulatory inquiries and commitments.
  • Develop reports and dashboards to provide leadership with visibility into case status, trends, and performance metrics.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation for all compliance matters
  • Identify process improvements and enhance workflows to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Support training and guidance for stakeholders on compliance processes and expectations.

Education Description

Requires a bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, public policy, or related field.

Experience

  • Requires three to five (3–5) years of experience in compliance, project management, regulatory affairs, or operational support within a utility or similarly regulated industry.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with both field operations personnel and senior leadership.
  • Proficiency with case tracking tools, project management software, or compliance management systems.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment on prioritization, and hold others accountable without direct authority.
  • Experience in natural gas utility operations or compliance, particularly in a multi-state operating environment, preferred.
  • Familiarity with federal and state regulatory frameworks, including PHMSA pipeline safety regulations (49 CFR 190–199), state public utility commission requirements, and DIMP/TIMP programs.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent experience, preferred.
  • Experience with compliance management platforms (e.g., SAP, Enablon, Intelex, or similar).
  • Understanding of gas utility operational functions including distribution and transmission integrity management, maintenance, leak management, and emergency response, preferred.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Able to communicate either written and verbal communications either in person or through technical equipment such as telephone.
  • Able to demonstrate and apply the manual dexterity to operate a personal computer and common office equipment.
  • Able to work on a varied schedule with projects and deadlines requiring the ability to meet changing demands.

Working Conditions

  • Required to participate in CenterPoint Energy’s All Hazards Emergency Operation Plan (AHOP).
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to work indoors in an office environment and outdoors with occasional exposure to all weather conditions, equipment, and noise when at field installation sites.
  • Able to travel occasionally overnight.
  • Able to work in an office environment.
