Job summary:
Directs crew activity to install new services and mains, and to locate and repair gas leaks on the distribution system. Assures that work performed complies with established company procedures and state and local codes.
Essential Functions:
- Participates with the Supervisor and Master Technician to determine the training needs and assist in the implementation of all training.
- Provides training for crew in regard to work tasks and safe work practices to assure that proper and safe work procedures are followed.
- Provides leadership in all crew activities necessary to install and maintain the gas distribution system and to safely perform all tasks.
- Coordinates the scheduling and support requirements with the Supervisor, Master Technician and Resource Management.
- Assembles, installs, repairs, tests and maintains the gas distribution system and related equipment, including but not limited to gas meters and regulators to assure safe, continuous service to customers. Responds to emergency situations to maintain public and personal safety.
- Operates equipment/tools used in the protection, repair, replacement and installation of new gas mains and services, including preparation and restoration of the construction site for completion of assigned projects.
- Follows the Operations Manual procedures and inspects work of the crew for compliance with all company codes and those of local, state and federal agencies.
- Completes record keeping associated with construction and maintenance operations in a timely manner to ensure an up to date and accurate information system is maintained.
- Provides superior customer service while installing and maintaining the distribution system. Communicates with customer regarding interruptions of gas service for construction or repair. Resolves customer complaints within company policies to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Maintains a professional working relationship with internal and external customers.
- Maintains the truck and equipment used by the crew to ensure maximum performance and minimize down time.
- Able to provide a current DOT Driver's Health Card and must pass any required DOT Road Test within the first six months in the position.
- Able to possess a valid State of Minnesota CDL driver’s license and have a safe driving record as determined by the Company.
- Participates in external and internal training, including online, field and classroom, to increase job knowledge and competency qualifications. Advises and assists other employees on-the-job to provide technical, safety and procedural knowledge.
Basic Qualifications:
Education:
- Requires a high school education or the equivalent of English, basic mathematics, grammar and punctuation.
- Experience:
- Must be in the Special Technician II classification.
Physical Requirements
- Able to operate a personal computer/laptop.
- Able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise maneuver objects.
- Able to walk, bend, climb and stoop on a daily basis.
- Able to distinguish the differences between all colors.
- Able to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to enter and exit vehicle unassisted.
Working Conditions:
- Able to wear personal protection safety equipment, such as air respirator, safety glasses, hard hat, gloves, protective footwear, and earplugs.
- Able to work a reasonable amount of overtime and respond to call outs for work assignments at all hours.
- Able to be included in random drug screen pool required for DOT drivers and DOT safety sensitive positions.
- Able to work outside in extreme weather conditions

Compensation Rate: 49.25 Hourly
CenterPoint Energy is required by Minnesota law to provide a good faith estimate of the starting fixed pay rate at the time of posting for the opportunity. This hourly compensation is specific to Minnesota and the pay rate negotiated in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
