Job Summary

CenterPoint Energy is looking for a Survey Technician - Spring Intern to join our CEHE Surveying & Right of Way Team, located in Houston, TX.

You will have the ability to: perform land boundary surveys, delineating routes, areas, and sites for company purchases or studies. These surveys involve the analysis of record information and collected field data with the application of special knowledge of mathematics, mapping, abstracting and related elements of law.

Essential Functions

  • Analyzes survey field data, calculates property and easement information under the direction and supervision of a Registered Land Surveyor.
  • Supports the field activities of a survey field party with research, calculations, and sketches to ensure, timely deliverables in a safe and satisfactory manner to complete each job.
  • Participates as a member of a survey crew collecting data and performing field surveys.
  • Provides support to Surveyors and assigned projects.
  • Participates on teams to assess, improve, and execute business and technical processes and technologies.
  • Interprets deeds, maps, field notes, easement documents and/or prepares working sketches needed to perform boundary surveys or construction layouts.
  • Visits job sites to ensure that tasks are being performed according to plans and standards.
  • Maintain and update in-housework order and time tracking system.
  • Research property records, historical maps & documents, GIS databases and other sources of information to prepare background information for field work and work order execution.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains company easement and property rights on maps and GIS system.

Education Description

  • Must be an entering the third or final year of an accredited 4-year Geomatics degree program.

Experience

A bonus to have

  • Possesses beginner level knowledge of ArcGIS, Civil3D, & Trimble Business Center or equivalent software for processing and reducing field survey data and measurements.
  • Possesses beginner level knowledge of field data collection equipment (GNSS, Total Stations, Level, Data Collectors, laser scanners, drones, etc.).
  • Possesses working knowledge of Microsoft Office Product Suite, specifically Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
