Job Summary
The Analyst GIS Support is responsible for acting as a consultant to the business client for GIS technology solutions, managing client expectations and serving as one of primary client interfaces. Also Iinvestigates and resolves GIS user problems, generates maps and reports, tests software enhancements, develops and conducts training programs for GIS users etc.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with business units to resolve GIS-related issues and provide technical solutions through research and analysis.
- Serve as a liaison between the GIS team and other departments, gathering business requirements and ensuring solutions meet their needs.
- Develop GIS reports and statistics for management and other departments as required.
- Troubleshoot and resolve user issues, including problem identification, research, and follow-up.
- Automate processes by creating scripts and models to improve efficiency.
- Produce high-quality maps (digital and paper) for internal stakeholders such as engineering, operations, surveying, environmental, and claims teams.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance the user experience with GIS systems.
- Contribute to the design and management of GIS databases, tools, and applications.
- Write software evaluations and recommendations for management.
- Develop and implement plans for testing, training, and deploying new or modified applications.
- Create and update user manuals, training materials, and visual aids for GIS software.
- Conduct group and individual training sessions for GIS software users.
- Resolve conflicting GIS edits and manage data integration.
- Maintain GIS website and develop reports and map configurations to support client data and reporting needs.
- Test and evaluate new GIS software for functionality, ease of use, and compatibility.
- Support GIS users on a rotating on-call schedule.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Experience supporting web, mobile, and desktop GIS applications, particularly Esri’s ArcGIS and SSP Productivity Solutions.
- Proficiency in GIS data ETL processes and the GIS Utility Network data model.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to debug complex issues.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Access, Visio).
- Ability to train and coach users, both in formal and informal settings.
- Knowledge of utility network and AutoCAD is a plus.
- Flexible and adaptable to learning new technologies and processes.
- Experience in working with various business groups such as land, gas, and electric editors.
- Knowledge of GIS troubleshooting and system administration best practices.
Education Description
Requires a bachelor’s degree in Spatial Science, GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Applications or a related discipline from an accredited college, university.
Experience
Requires 1-3 years of related experience, including:
training, support and GIS activities; or equivalent combination of education (such as GISP and/or ESRI certifications) and experience.
web, desktop and mobile GIS applications use, configuration, and support
ESRI software suite, including ArcGIS Desktop/Pro, ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS, and ArcGIS Online
SSP MIMS & Productivity Solutions
ESRI Mobile Solutions including Survey123, Quick Capture, Field Maps, & Workforce
Script programming with Python and ArcPy
database queries in Oracle 12g with PL/SQL
